About Stroke Engine Intervention

We have built this site with the goal of bridging the gap in knowledge translation between research findings and current clinical practice. This site can be used to find the most current information about the value of the various interventions used in stroke rehabilitation.

You will notice that topics and interventions are listed alphabetically on the left menu bar A-to-Z. These are actual practices that were found in textbooks, journal articles and based on interviews with more than 1800 clinicians working in stroke rehabilitation.

Stroke Engine's content is derived from multiple sources including the Evidence-Based Review of Stroke Rehabilitation (EBRSR) headed by Dr. Teasell in London, Ontario and extensive reviews of databases including MEDLINE, CINAHL, the Cochrane Library, HealthSTAR, Health and Psychosocial Instruments, CANCERLIT, PsycINFO. The goal is to provide you with best practice information, that is practice that is based on scientific evidence of its effectiveness. A dedicated team of senior researchers, graduate fellows and research assistants with expertise in specific areas also contribute to creating and evaluating the quality of each topic. After extensive review, each intervention is given a level of evidence, rating its effectiveness for different outcomes. For more information about these ratings, see "Rating Evidence".
